Engineering Software Developer

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly capable and experienced software developer (computer programmer) for our main office in Atlanta, GA. SpaceWorks is an industry leader in the development of desktop aerospace engineering software such as QuickShot, Sentry, and REDTOP-Pro for the design of future aerospace systems. In addition, our software development team is often tasked with developing custom or niche engineering software tools for our customers in the US Government or the New Space industry.

SpaceWorks' software products are built to solve aerospace engineering problems. Therefore, our software developers must understand the “physics” involved in the problems. An ideal candidate is a computer scientist with a strong background in engineering or an engineer with a strong programming skillset and interest. This is an early to mid career position. No entry-level applicants please.

Required Qualifications:

• BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related academic field of study
• Experience with software tool programming, development, and testing in a small team environment
• Experience with programming “physics based” software tools (e.g. trajectory, propulsion, structures, aerodynamics, orbital mechanics, etc.)
• Experience with Java, C++, Python, and Matlab
• Experience with Git and GitHub software development tools
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)

Additional Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with GUI/UI development and implementation
• Experience with multi-threaded software codes and parallel processing
• Experience with iOS and Android OS
• Knowledge of Atlassian Jira and Confluence
• Interest in space and hypersonic systems

Looking for an awesome internship? SpaceWorks and its subsidiary companies regularly employ mechanical and aerospace engineering, electrical, and computer science students. Interns at SpaceWorks work closely with our full-time staff and are offered a look into what it is like to work in the aerospace industry.

Candidates should be pursuing an undergraduate or a graduate degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related technical field. A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.

We also like to see that you are interested in the aerospace field as a career; be sure to convey this in your cover letter.

Are you a high school student with an interest in aerospace? Applications for ASTRO Team 9 are now open!

ASTRO, or Aerospace Summer Training & Research Opportunity, is specifically geared for high school students. ASTRO participants work in a team of six students to solve Aerospace Engineering design problems. They have access to numerous resources, including our staff with Daily Staff Check-In’s. For the Check-In’s, our staff members rotate each day and are also available on an as-needed basis for any questions. As a result, the students are presented with a great mix of expertise to learn from.

No great summer program is complete without a few fun activities along the way. ASTRO participants enjoy a field trip, movie day, one-on-one talks with staff about college and career advice, and even a little Staff vs. ASTRO Foosball. SEI hopes to further develop the interest these students have shown in the Aerospace Engineering field through this challenging yet fun-filled experience.
